ABSTRACT
Marine algae have been the source of active compounds. They are used for various applications. Their use in traditional medicine has been reported since time immemorial. In the present study, one such marine algae Chlorococcum humicola was investigated. Chlorococcum humicola belongs to chlorophyta and is a unicellular green algae. The algae was collected from Rameshwaram, India. The ethanol, ethyl acetate and hexane extracts of Chlorococcum humicola were subjected to phytochemical analysis to know the secondary metabolites present in the extracts. The extracts were also subjected to GC-MS analysis and identified 14 compounds. The antioxidant activity of ethanol
extract of Chlorococcum humicola was also studied.
Keywords: Chlorococcum humicola, marine algae, phytochemical analysis, GC-MS analysis, antioxidant activity.
