ABSTRACT
Natural polymers now days are playing the leading role in the field of pharmaceutical science. Advancement in drug delivery technology, natural polymers are mainly incorporated in the controlled drug delivery to increase the rate and extent ofdrug release. In the present study the polysaccharide was extracted and purified from the Terminelia bellarica gum by several methods for its safety, efficacy towards the pharmaceutical formulation as excipients. Various physiochemical properties and organoleptic properties of the polysaccharide were evaluated.Followed by test like Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy to characterize
the polysaccharide. The carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content of the polysaccharidewas determined using elemental analysis. Finally the thorough study gave us the all in all idea to incorporate the polysaccharide in various formulations such as matrix formulation, mucoadhesive tablets etc and to carry out further investigation.
