ABSTRACT
Gloriosa superba L ecotypes were collected from different regions from Tamil Nadu. The in vitro antioxidant properties of methonalic extracts of Gloriosa superba L was evaluated using various assays. The antioxidant potential of the extracts were assessed by employing different in vitro assays such as DPPH, ABTS, Superoxide and OH radical scavenging capacities. Each sample under assay condition showed a dose-dependent free radical scavenging effect. Based on the total phenolic content and free radical scavenging assays phenols are rich in Virudunagar ecotype and DPPH, ABTS and Hydroxyl radical scavenging activity higher in Bhavani sample. The strong capacity
superoxide radical scavenging is in the Palani sample.
Keywords: ABTS, Ascorbic acid, Gloriosa superba, DPPH, Gallic acid.
