TABLET OF EMBLICA OFFICINALIS: A NATURAL SOURCE OF VITAMIN C

ABSTRACT
Awala (Emblica officinalis) is widely known herb for its Vitamin C constituents which contains approx. 600 to 700 mg of Vitamin C in per 100 g of fresh pulp or dried. Awala fruit is also rich in mineral matters like phosphorus, iron and calcium. There are so many dosage forms of Emblica officinalis in Ayurveda like Chyawanprash etc., which a person faces problems during consumption, but in this study Emblica officinalis was put in the tablet form to make a person more comfortable during consumption due to which patient compliance is increased. The tablet was formulated by a wet granulation method using starch paste and other excipients like microcrystalline cellulose,
sodium starch glycolate, talc and magnesium stereate etc. The formulated tablets were subjected to evaluation like disintegration, hardness, friability, uniformity of weight, TLC identification. The results showed that all the parameters were within the desired limit and TLC result showed the positive identification of Vitamin C and Gallic acid in tablet formulation.
