ABSTRACT
Present study was carried out to assess the in-vitro anthelmintic activity of Abutilon theopharsti leaves and root extracts in two (Methanol and Hexane). Indian earthworm (Pheretima posthuma) was taken as test organism. Activity was seen at four different concentrations (10mg/ml, 20mg/ml, 50mg/ml, 100mg/ml).Mortality of worms was found maximum at 100mg/ml. Root extracts were more potent than the leave extracts. Methanol extracts of both root and leaves showed higher anthelmintic effects compared to hexane extracts. Both extracts of leave and roots were dose-dependent.
Methanolic root extracts displayed highest activity (11.567 ± 1.507, 13.53 ± 3.90) among all selected extracts. The parameters that were considered for this activity were time of paralysis (P) and time of death (D) of the worms when worms were treated with the extracts. Albendezole was take as standard drug. Results suggest active principles having anthelmintic efficacy in Abutilon theopharsti roots and leaves.
