Abstract

A PROMISING APPROACH TO SUPPORT APPROPRIATE COLON TARGET DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Oral administration of different dosage forms is the more suitable form of drug administration due to greater patient compliance. Targeted delivery system, in which delivery of the drug takes place at target region or in disease region. In colon targeted drug delivery the drug is targeted to the colon. For the treatment of various disease related to colon like inflammatory bowel disease, colon’s disease, colon cancer etc. The colon is a site in GIT where both local and systemic delivery of drugs can take place. To achieve successful colon targeted delivery of a drug, a drug need to be protected from GI degradation, release and absorption in the upper part of gastric intestinal tract (GIT). This article review a detailed study about disease of colon, anatomy of colon, factor affecting drug absorption, some current approaches like pulsinicap system, port system, probiotic approach, Enteroion capsule technology multiparticulate system with evaluation method for site specific drug delivery to colon.
