ABSTRACT
A series of new 4-thiazolidinone derivatives have been synthesised by
condensing 4,4’-methylene bis N- substituted benzylidine-2-methyl
aniline with thioglycolic acid in presence of anh. ZnCl2 in 1,4-dioxane.
All of the synthesised compounds have been confirmed by elemental
analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectral data. All the synthesised compounds
(Ma–Mj) were screened for their antimicrobial properties against two
Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus
pyogenes), two Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and three strains of fungi (Candida
albicans, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus clavatus) using broth micro
dilution method.
Keywords: 4,4’-methylene bis N- substituted benzylidine-2-methyl aniline,1,4-dioxane, anh. ZnCl2, thioglycolic acid, Schiff bases.
