ABSTRACT
Objective: The stydy aimed at assessing the biochemical alteration in
selected body tissues of fresh water prawns, Macrobrachium
Rosenbergii exposed to monocrotophos. Methods: 200 Female
freshwater prawns, macrobrachium rosenbergii were collected from the
kollidam near Annaikkarai. One group was considered as control and
another group as the experimental group was exposed to acute (short
term) treatments the acute treatment consisted of exposure to 9.5ppm
(1/2 of 96h lc50) and chronic treatment consisted of exposure to 1.9
ppm (MCP)twenty test prwns in each set of both controll and
experimental groups were maintained simutaneously. The medium
water and monocrotophos (MCP) Consentration were renewed daily.
the prwns were sacrificed at interval of 24h in the acute and at intervls
of 7.14 and 21days in the chronic treatment groups for biochemical
studies. In order to evaluate the total protein content and total lipid, the selected tissues
namely. The gills, hepatopancreas and muscle of acute and chronic exposed m. resenbergii.
At the end exposure peried (24-96h; 7-21 days) the prawns of both controll and groups were
anaethetized 1:3000 MS 222(tricane methene sulfonate, Sandoz) for 2minutes and the test
tissues (Gills, hepatopancreas and muscle) were quickly dissected out Weighed to the nearest
milligram.
Keywords: Macrobrachium Rosenbergii, Biochemical parameters and monocrotophos.
