CLINICAL EFFICACY OF AYURVEDIC FORMULATION APAMARGA KSHARA AND VIRECHANA CHURNA IN TAMAKA SWASA (BRONCHIAL ASTHMA)

ABSTRACT
Tamaka Swasa is a disease described in the ayurvedic text that shows close resembles with Bronchial Asthma on the basis of clinical manifestation. Ayurvedic text contributes several type of treatment for Tamaka Swasa. Study was carried out in 60 patients of either sex in between the age of 18-60 years to assure the clinical response of Apamarga kshara in Bronchial Asthma. Ayurved offer promising results in the management of Tamaka Swasa through a set of treatment motilities. Shodhana and shamana are some of such motilities. Virechana is established as shodhana treatment for Tamaka Swasa. In the study design group A is treated with Apamarga Kshara and group
B is treated with Apamarga Kshara and Virechana churna. On the assessment, it is observed that the effect of Apamarga Kshara in Tamaka Swasa is highly significant i.e. p < 0.01% on the basis of subjective parameters (Night awakening, morning worsening, limitation of activity, shortness of breath, wheeze etc.) and objective parameter (Hb%, AEC, ESR, BHT, PEFR, FEV1, FVC). The drug is quite safe and act as bronchodilator, anti histaminic and anti inflammatory.
