ABSTRACT
Medicated chewing gums of chlorpheniramine maleate were prepared by melting process using different concentrations of synthetic gum base and plasticizers like glycerol and castor oil. The prepared chewing gums are evaluated for different parameters like appearance, stickiness, weight variation, drug content, hardness, thickness, in vitro drug release. In vitro drug release was performed by modified dissolution apparatus. It was seen that in formulations F4-F9 drug release was decreased compared to formulation series F1-F3. It was observed that as the concentration of synthetic gum base increases drug release was decreases. The formulation F3 shows maximum drug release of 90.89% in 30 minutes compared to all other formulations. So that melting method is suitable to prepare medicated chewing gums of
chlorpheniramine with optimum concentration of plasticizer and synthetic gum base.
