ABSTRACT
Lantana camara Linn. (Verbenaceae) has been widely used as medicine in Ayurvedic system. To evaluate Anti-arthritic Activity of flower extract of Lantana camara (L.) by in vitro model. Lantana camara is a medicinal plant which is indicated for the treatment of arthritis in folklore medicine. The present study was aimed at the investigation of anti-arthritic of aqueous and methanolic extracts of orange and pink colours of L. camara flower. The anti-arthritic activity of flower extracts of L. camara was done by in vitro inhibition of protein denaturation methods. The aqueous and methanolic flower extracts of L. camara was subjected to in vitro inhibition of protein denaturation in various concentrations i.e. 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 μg/ml. Flower extracts of L. camara exhibited a concentration
dependent inhibition of protein (albumin) denaturation. The highest antiarthritic activity was observed in pink colour flower extract when compared with orange colour flower extract. The maximum antiarthritic activity was observed in methanolic extract as compared to aqueous extract of L. camara flower. The present study is support to the isolation and use of phytoconstituents from flower of L. camara in treatment of arthritis.
