Tahsildar Apeksha Ganesh*, Shinkar Dattatraya Manohar, Saudagar RavindraBhanudas

ABSTRACT

The rationale of this review on pharmaceutical gel is topical drug administration through hydrogel drug delivery system anywhere in the body by the route of ophthalmic, rectal, vaginal and skin. Hydrogel constitute a group of material which are used numerous biomedical discipline and are still developing for new promising applications.hydrogels are three dimensional cross-linked polymer networks that can respond to the fluctuations of the environmental stimuli. These biomaterials can incorporate large quantum of biological fluids and swell. When swelled, they are soft & rubbery and resemble the living tissue, exhibiting excellent biocompatibility. Here, the special focus on gel that can be incorporated in to a novel drug delivery system like hydrogel and their future scope, factors affecting hydrogel and there advantages, disadvantages. Evaluation parameters including measurement of pH, drug content, viscosity, spreadability, extrudability, skin irritation test, in vitro and in vivo studies, stability, homogenicity.

Keywords: Hydrogel, Skin, Methods preparation, Evaluation parameters of gel.
