LEAF EXTRACT OF AEGLE MARMELOS: A POTENT ANGIOMODULATOR
U. H. Shah*
ABSTRACT
The methanol leaf extract of A. marmelos was studied for its potency towards angiogenesis by using chick chorioallantoic assay (CAM). The normal, sham control, DNS control and treated CAMs were studied morphometrically and histologically. All CAMs were quantified morphometrically and histologically after 48, 72 and 96 hrs treatment at the end of embryonic day 6 (ED6). There was significant reduction in number of secondary and tertiary blood vessels. Hence the extract is antivasculogenic and antiangiogenic. The results were assessed for its potency statistically. The extract of A. marmelos may be used in therapeutic angiogenesis to cure malignancy.
