COMPUTERIZATION OF PHARMACIES IN THE REGION OF VARNA

ABSTRACT
An anonymous questionnaire study was applied in 2015 to 78 specialists. They worked in pharmacies in the region of Varna. The aim of the study was to assess the real necessity from implementation of an uniform, effective, unique, information system connecting all units in the health care network. The questionnaires were sent to 120 retail pharmacies in Varna. The result showed that all of the participants considered that there is a need of establishment and support of uniform information system among all the deliverers of health care, National Health Insurance Fund /NHIF/, Ministry of health, specialists and others; that there is a need the pharmacy
software programs to be unified and improved; the most used pharmacy software program “Pharmacy Expert” belongs to the wholesaler Libra and confirmed the results from a study conducted in the region of Burgas.; most of the participants considered that the implementation of electronic recipe and electronic patient record are needed in order to be applied pharmaceutical care especially for the chronic patients. The results from the conducted study in the regions of Varna and in Burgas confirmed our thesis that lack of network and coordination among institutions and not an effective centralized information system of NHIF are a serious problem for the Bulgarian Health Care System.
