ABSTRACT
Cyperus bulbosus is a coastal perennial sedge commonly called “Silanthi†in Tamil. The present investigation was carried out to determine the bioactive components of whole plant of Cyperus bulbosus using GC – MS analysis. 28 compounds were identified in the methanol extract of whole plant of Cyperus bulbosus. The major phytocomponents screened were C – Sitosterol (29.82%), 13-Docosenamide (11.95%), Campesterol (7.31%), Stigmasterol (7.04%), Ethyl linoleate (5.80%), and Butyl 9.cis.11.tran – Octadecadienoate (3.34%). From the result it is evident that Cyperus bulbosus contains various phytocompounds of phytopharmaceutical importance.
