ABSTRACT
The textile effluents were collected and characterized for its
physicochemical properties. The effluents were cultured in half
strength Nutrient Broth and the isolated organisms were identified by
biochemical characterization. Optimum growth conditions were
standardised. Dye discoloration activity was determined by taking the
optical density after every 24 hours. Discolorization was studied by
combinations of organisms. Plasmid was isolated from the organisms
and competent cells were prepared for carrying out transformation for
effective dye degradation. Percentage discolorization was found. A
thin layer chromatography was carried out to confirm the degradation
assay. The toxicity of the products formed after degradation was tested.
