ABSTRACT

The main algae is considered as one of the most primitive organisms on the earth, and also considered as ecological purifiers, the algae is also well known to tolerate and get adapted to extreme environmental conditions like stress, temperature, pollution etc. However our work is designed to see the growth of the two selected algae i.e. Oscillotoria Willie and Chlorella vulgaries in extremely polluted and harsh water conditions. The sample collected from four polluted spots like Rajashree, ACC, Vasavadatta and Shiva Shakti cements their discharge in Kagina river. These collected sample were brought in to the laboratory, they were isolated and cultivated in the maintained conditions, further they were subjected for the quantitative and qualitative estimation of primary and secondary metabolites as well as metal analysis. This results shows in chlorella vulgaries the presence of chlorophyll 95.1± 1.161mg/l, carbohydrates 82.0± 0.501mg/l, lipids 48± 5.29mg/l, phenols 41.2± 0.758mg/100g, flavonoids 0.070±0.065mg/100g, alkaloids 23.9±1.21mg/100g and terpenoids 0.0803±0.0673mg/100g and that of Oscillotoria willie the presence of chlorophyll 88.1± 2.69mg/l, carbohydrate 81.4± 3.332mg/l, lipids 39± 5.2mg/l, phenols 37.1± 6.16mg/100g, flavonoids 1.04±0.095mg/100g, alkaloides 23.7± 1.47mg/100g, terpenoids 0.802±0.689mg/100g etc. The observations of metal analysis shows that among toxic metals iron was found present in the large quantity i.e 0.092ppm and chromium was found in less quantity i.e 0.020ppm. our study shows the tolernce of algae in reducing the metal toxicity even in highly polluted water and its survival is very much impotrtant and further work in this area will be significant.
