CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF ESSENTIAL OILS ISOLATED FROM LEAVES AND TWIGS OF PISTACIA LENTISCUS L. GROWING WILD IN MOROCCO

ABSTRACT
This study aims at evaluating the antimicrobial activity and chemical composition of essential oils present in the leaves and twigs of Pistacia lentiscus L., collected from two different regions of Morocco (Moulay Idriss Zerhoun and Melloussa). The essential oils extracted by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger-type and examined by gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The antimicrobial activity of different oils was tested using the diffusion method and by determining the inhibition zone against six bacteria (Streptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae) and one fungi (Candida albicans).
