ABSTRACT
Reproductive tract morbidity (RTI’s) is higher among the women of
developing countries resulting in devastating consequences on health
and social well-being. Majority of women in India continue to suffer
from reproductive tract infections resulting into Pelvic inflammatory
disease (PID). The actual incidence of PID is indeterminable due to
lack of reliable diagnostic techniques as well as asymptomatic nature
of the disease. In the present study an attempt has been made to search
the incidence of PID cases as well as its associated clinical
complications in the female community of Akola- Washim city area.
The study was conducted for the period of three consecutive years
during 2009-12.The findings suggest that the incidence of PID was
found to be 36.71 per cent in the study area. It was observed that there
was continuous increase in the number of PID cases from 2009-12.The statistical analysis on
clinical consequences suggest that recurrent PID (P=0.0000027) was more predominant
clinical sequelae followed by infertility (P=0.00001608), habitual miscarriage (P=0.001588),
ectopic pregnancy (P=0.00370) and pelvic pain (P=0.006717).
Keywords: RTI’s, PID, incidence, clinical complications, infertility, ectopic pregnancy.
