ABSTRACT
A simple, rapid and precise High-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method for analysis of clonidine hydrochloride (CLN) and hydrochlorothiazide (HTZ) in their bulk and tablet dosage forms has been developed and validated. Chromatography was performed on silica gel 60GF254 plates with Toluene: Ethanol: Ammonia (7.5:2.5:0.2 v/v) as mobile phase. Detection was performed at 207 nm. The RF values were 0.23 for hydrochlorothiazide and 0.45 for clonidine hydrochloride. Regression plots revealed good linear relationships in the concentration ranges 100-500 ng for clonidine hydrochloride and 60-300 ng for hydrochlorthiazide. When accuracy was checked by conducting recovery studies, average recovery was 99.752% and 99.663% for clonidine hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide respectively.
