Respiratory tract is a frequent site of infection because it comes in direct contact with the environment and is exposed to airborne microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) include the common cold, laryngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute rhinitis, acute rhinosinusitis and acute otitis media.
