Sujata Kumari, Meenu Nagpal*, Geeta Aggarwal, Puneet, Upendra K. Jain, Pankaj Sharma
ABSTRACT This article presents an overview of the advantages and drawbacks of SLMs, that is, Solid lipid based particles with dimensions in the micrometer range. Here are the details for the properties of solid lipid microparticles, a promising drug carrier system. First the advantages and disadvantages reviewed again in this article for the better and brief knowledge about the SLMs. An update on preparation techniques and characterization methods are also presented, with particular emphasis on more recent technologies. A detailed discussion of the evaluation of SLMs includes the determination of drug entrapment, particle size distribution, the surface morphology, the solid-state analysis, the thermogravimetric analysis like DSC and the factors influencing it. The in vitro drug release studies that have been carried out so far and the parameters affecting them are also described. Keywords: Microparticles, Method of preparation, Evaluation, Material used.
