ABSTRACT
Plants are always an exemplary source of drugs; in fact many of the currently available drugs were derived either directly or indirectly from them. In the past decade, research has been focused on scientific evaluation of traditional drugs of plant origin and screening of more effective and safe hepatoprotective agents has continued to be an important area. In developing countries 80% of population are using traditional medicine in primary medical problems. The hepatoprotective activity revealed the present study; the Streblus asper aqueous leaf extract (SAALE) and Streblus asper methanol leaf extract (SAMLE). Group – I - Control, Group – II - CCl4 induced (1ml/kg), Group – III - CCl4 + Liver tonic (5ml/kg), Group –IV - CCl4 + SAALE 200mg/kg, Group –V - CCl4 + SAALE 400mg/kg, Group –VI - CCl4 +
SAMLE 200mg/kg, Group –VII - CCl4 + SAMLE 400mg/kg.
Keywords: SGOT, SGPT, Alkaline Phosphate, Hepatoprotective activity.
