ABSTRACT
The current study was aimed at, to evaluate the phytochemicals present in different Quercus species, namely Quercus suber, Quercus macrocarpa, Quercus Montana, Quercus griffithii and Quercus serrata, which belongs to the beach family, Fagaceae. The major constituents of Oak are Tannic acid, Gallic acid, etc, and certain poly phenolic compounds such as Tannins, Saponins, etc., which are considered to be of great importance in medicinal and pharmaceutical field. Certain species of Quercus are used for the treatment of Gonorrhoea, Diarrhoea, etc and it is also used as a local anesthetic. Phytochemical screening of the plant leaf and stem samples revealed the presence of certain secondary metabolites and the TLC analysis is performed to identify the active components present in the plant leaf and stem samples.
