ROLE OF CLINICAL PHARMACIST IN HYPERTENSIVE COMPLICATIONS – FOCUS ON HEART

ABSTRACT
Background: Hypertension is one of the most common reversible disease leads to cardio vascular problems. The poor control of this highly prevalent disease results increased morbidity and mortality rate and hospital admission. Clinical pharmacist role is very crucial to improve the quality of life of patients. Aim: To assess the role of clinical pharmacist in Hypertensive complications patients and their HRQOL. Materials and Methods: A comparative study was conducted in the Sreekavya clinic, Kadapa for a period of 6 months. Elderly patients who were previously diagnosed with Hypertension and its heart complication were included, Patients who are diagnosed with
HTN at first time were excluded. Data was Performed by using Mac New Questionnaire. Results: A total of 120 patients, 60 hypertensive patients and 60 healthy volunteers were recruited for comparison. The average age of patient group is 54.67(±8.01) years and healthy volunteers group is 52.88 (±8.68) years. In patient group more than 40% of patients were in the age group of 56-60 years. We found that Cooley’s (42%) were suffering with CVD more when compared to other occupation people. 57% of patients had risk factors of CVD. In that most of the patients were having alcoholism + smoking. HRQoL improvement in patient counselling group (1.47) is greater than without patient counselling group (0.65). It revealed a greater improvement in patient counselling group than without patient counselling group. Conclusion: clinical pharmacist can play a crucial role in the patient counselling and to achieve a better quality of life of patients.
