ABSTRACT
Thrombosis is one of the leading causes of thromboembolic disorders affecting millions of people worldwide, with annual incidence rates varying from 1 case per 10,000 young adults to 1 per 100 elderly persons. Although efficacious drugs for the treatment of thrombosis remain undisputed, the deleterious, life-threatening side effects of these drugs are well documented. To tackle this global problem Unani system of medicine can axiomatically comes to the fore, as tasaddude urooq (vascular thrombosis) is being treaated by Unani Physicians since hundreds of years. Therefore the present study was carried out to evaluate the antithrombotic activity of Duqu (Peucedanum grande C.B Clarke), in vivo and in vitro model of thrombosis in experimental animals. Results: Duqu has antithrombotic activity since it inhibited the increase in the weight of the thrombus in vivo and prologed activated partial thromboplastin time in vitro but it has no effect on prothrombin time. Hence it is concluded that the test drug Duqu has anticoagulant activity in vivo and in vitro model of thrombosis.
