Abstract

ANTIULCER ACTIVITY OF CITHAREXYLUM QUADRANGULAR JACQ LEAVES (ETHANOLIC EXTRACT) ON EXPERIMENTALLY INDUCED GASTIC ULCERATION IN RATS

ABSTRACT

The use of medicinal plants in treating several diseases is growing in last decades. Citharexylum quadrangular Jacq (CQJ) leaves extract has been previously used as anti inflammatory source. The present study was directed to evaluate its antiulcer activity in gastric ulcerated rats. The number of lesions as well as the ulcer score were decreased in pre and post treated animals with the plant extract when compared with control groups. Similar improvement was recorded in gastric juice volume and total acidity. Nitric oxide, glutathione and lipid peroxidation as well as biomarkers (TNFÎ± and VEGF) also indicated that CQJ has a Gastroprotective activity.
