ABSTRACT
Diabetis milletus is one of the autoimmune diseases where the human population is at the receiving end. The disease affects large human population in the Indian subcontinent. The present study was aimed at inhibiting the enzyme amylase by the n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethanol and methanol leaf extracts of Erinocarpus nimmonii. The inhibition assay was performed by Chromogenic DNSA method. The leaf extracts of methanol, ethanol, DCM and n-hexane extracts have displayed inhibition of 14.08 %, 13.57 %, 1.32 % and 2.05 % at 1000 μg concentration, whereas, the standard acarbose inhibited the enzyme at all concentrations screened. The result it indicates that the α-amylase inhibition by different solvent extracts of Erinocarpus nimmonii is
dose dependent.
