ABSTRACT
Safety of Food has and will always remain a matter of great concern worldwide. In this regard, stringent guidelines have been put forth by FDA in manufacture of consumer goods. Microbial pigments, owing to its nature of colour, nutritive value & medicinal properties very aptly has provided an alternative over its chemical counterparts. Natural Ecosystems viz soil, water will always remain a never-ending source of micro-organisms; with huge potential in many sectors. In the present study, isolation of pigment providing bacterial isolates from different terrestrial habitats was carried out. Identification was carried out as mentioned in Bergey‟s manual of Systematic Bacteriology, 9th Edition.FDA, Microbial pigments, Natural Ecosystems, Bergey‟s manual.
