HOW OBESE INDIVIDUALS RESPOND TO PASCHIMOTTANASANA AND KAPALABHATI ON BODY FAT, VISCERAL FAT AND LIPID PROFILE

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Obesity is burgeoning as an important health trouble in India particularly in urban areas, inconsistently co-existing with under nutrition. Almost 30-65% of adult urban Indian is either overweight or obese or has abdominal obesity. Excessive body fat is accumulated on the tummy, buttocks, breasts and thighs may lead to diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and metabolic syndrome. Yogic exercise like Paschimottanasana and Kapalabhati helps to reduce obesity with considerable health benefits therefore, study has been intended to appraise the alteration on parameters like body fat, visceral fat and lipid profile.by Paschimottanasana and Kapalabhati in obese individuals. Materials and methods: Total 60 subjects of both sex diagnosed as grade-1 obese as per WHO criteria were registered in
Department of Kriya Sharir BHU Varanasi. These subjects were divided into two groups by random sampling method in group I and II. Group-I individuals were instructed diet restriction plan whereas subjects of group II were recommended with Paschimottanasana and Kapalabhati along with diet restriction plan. All the subjects were evaluated for parameters like body fat, visceral fat and lipid profile. Result: Statistical analysis was done initial and after three months of life style modification which showed superior rejoinder in terms of diminution in body fat, visceral fat and lipid profile except HDL after performing Paschimottanasana and Kapalabhati along with diet restriction in group II. Conclusion: Our study concludes that regular practice of Paschimottanasana and Kapalabhati along with diet restriction is more helpful in plummeting obesity and its complications.
