ABSTRACT
Cissus quadrangularis is a common perennial climber of family Vitaceae, particularly found in tropical regions and also distributed throughout India. It is a fleshy, cactus like liana widely used as a common food item in India. The present study was designed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of methanol, ethyl acetate and hexane stem extracts of Cissus quadrangularis against selected UTI bacterial pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by in vitro agar well diffusion method. The ethyl acetate extract of the plant was found to possess strong antibacterial activity against tested pathogens. The ethyl acetate extract exhibited maximum activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae with zone of inhibition 25mm. The preliminary phytochemical analysis was performed in ethyl acetate extract. The yield was maximum compared Keywords: Cissus quadrangularis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
