ABSTRACT
Okanga Powder and Omega Roots + Ginseng, Aloe vera are
vended plant products used for treatment of bacteria-related diseases.
These vended products were extracted via infusion using ethanol and
distilled water. Phytochemical screening of these extracts revealed
presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroidal
glycosides, whereas, Phenols were found present in extracts of
Omega Roots + Ginseng, Aloe vera only. In-Vitro antimicrobial
activity study of extracts of Okanga Powder against Staphylococcus
aureus, Pseudomonas species and candida albicans indicated that the
water extract was more active; whereas for Omega Roots + Ginseng,
Aloe vera against Naissera gonorrhea, Treponema pallidum and
Salmonella typhi, the ethanol extract showed higher activity. This
study showed the potency of the two vended products as broad
spectrum antibiotics.
