NEUROPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF SIDA CORDIFOLIA ON β- AMYLOID INDUCED COGNITIVE DYSFUNCTION IN SWISS ALBINO MICEK.Lakshmi Surekha*,G.Vijaykumar Reddy,Y,Narasimha rao,,M.Prasad rao Department of Pharmacology, MAM College of Pharmacy, Narasaraopet, Guntur (D.t) India. ABSTRACT Neurodegeneration is the term for the loss of structure or function of neurons including death of neurons via oxidative and apoptotic pathways. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with loss of hippocampal and cortical neurons resulting in memory and cognitive impairment. Acetyl-cholinesterase inhibitors appear to be effective, but the magnitude of benefit may be greater in clinical trials than in practice. Plant Sida cordifolia is used in Indian traditional medicine as an antioxidant and for many types of CNS disorders still there are some scientific evaluation to been done. The objective of the study is to carry out the pre-clinical screening of alcoholic extract of Sida cordifolia (AESC) against β- amyloid induced AD in female Swiss albino mice. AESC was screened for its phytochemical constituents using preliminary analysis. The neuroprotective effect of AESC was evaluated by using behavioral tests like Water maze, Ymaze, exploratory test and step down inhibitory avoidance test. It is even evaluated using bio chemical parameters like AChE, MOA-A, SOD, Total protein, Vit-C, Glutathione peroxidase and reductase. It is suggested that neuroprotective activity of AESC was because of inhibitory activity of AChE, MAO-A and its anti-oxidant property. Results support the properties responsible for the neuroprotective effect of Sida cordifolia may be because of its flavanoidal content. Keywords: Alzheimer’s Disease, Sida cordifolia, ICV administration Aβ25-35-induced AD, bio-chemical parameters, behavioral parameters. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
