ABSTRACT
Antioxidant potential of Luteolin (L), Crude (hydroalcoholic - HAE) extract and methanol fraction (MF) of Tamarindus indica pod was measured using different in vitro assays. Ascorbic acid was used as the standard. DPPH radical scavenging activity and reducing power of the extracts was observed to be greater in Luteolin >Ascorbic acid > MF > HAE. The total phenolic content of MF was found to be 17.23±1.26 μg of luteolin/mg of extract and that of HAE was 10.40 ±0.71 μg of luteolin/mg of extract respectively.
Keywords: Tamarindus indica L, Luteolin, antioxidant, hydroalcoholic extract, methanol fraction.
