?AN INVESTIGATION OF PATIENT SATISFACTION WITH PHARMACEUTICAL CARE SERVICES

ABSTRACT
This is a description cross-sectional facility based study done in Khartoum locality to investigate patient satisfaction with pharmaceutical care and services during the period of February –march 2011.The main objective is: To assess the characteristics of patients and co-patients attending pharmacies in Khartoum locality. To assess the level of patient and co-patients satisfaction with pharmacy location, the pharmacy premises and the interaction with the pharmacist. To identify the potential factors affecting patient and co-patients satisfaction with the pharmacy and the pharmacist. Methodology The study population was 315 patients and co-patients attending 15 pharmacies. Five in Khartoum town, 5 in Omdurman and 5 in Khartoum north, the pharmacies selection was based on maximal variation method. Discussion The analysis showed that the overall satisfaction level with care services was found to be 80.7 %. conclusion it was found that patient satisfaction is high with factors (or aspects) related to personal convenience such as location of the pharmacy and time spend to reach it ,while domain aspect addressing patient-pharmacist interaction and evaluating cost of the drug has low satisfaction level . The study recommended pharmacy student training during study and in-services training for graduated pharmacist addressing’s communication skills &counseling about medication history and drug side effects.
