COMPARATIVE DRUG UTILIZATION STUDY IN CHRONIC DIABETIC AND HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS IN AN OUTPATIENT CLINIC IN A TERITARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
The study was done to find out the comparative drug utilization studies in chronic type II diabetes and hypertensive patients visiting the op clinic. The patients were counseled & the prescription analysis was done. It is a retrospective observational study done by adapting World Health Organization (WHO) & International Diabetes Federation (IDF) guidelines. A total 167 patients along with prescriptions were considered for the study and analyzed (October 2014 to May 2015). The DM-II & HTN is mostly prevalent in adult age group. From the study it was found that mostly patients had HbA1c levels above 6.5 %, which indicates that the sugar levels needed to be controlled drastically. Most of the patients included in the study were found to be on normal scale of BMI. It was found out that the age group ranging from 71-80 had the systolic pressure slightly increased than rest of age
groups. The diastolic pressure was found to be more in age groups ranging from 41-50. Serum sodium of age groups ranging from 21-30 years was found to be slightly increased, when compared to regular values. The Potassium and Chlorine level were found to be between ranges. The serum Creatinine levels for age groups from 21-30 & 41-50, P value was found to be significant.
