ABSTRACT
The present work is focused on the development and characterization
of Chlorpheniramine maleate medicated chewing gum as an intra-oral
drug delivery system. The chewing gums were prepared using Health
in Gum grade-02(HiG-02) as a directly compressible gum base
developed by Cafosa. A total of six formulations were prepared and
divided into two sets. In one set of experiment drug was added in
solution form named as WG series while in other set drug was added
as a dry powder named as DC series. Each set consisted of three
formulations with concentration of HiG-02 as 65%, 75% and 85%
respectively so as to study its effect on the drug release profile and
chewing property. The formulations were evaluated for granule
properties, in-process parameters and finished product parameters.
Among the six formulations WG-2 emerged as the best formulation
with percent release of 97.02±1.296% and optimum chewing property. Accelerated stability
studies were conducted on blister packed WG-2 batch for period of three months at 40 ± 2o
C/75 ± 5% RH.
