ABSTRACT
Coleus aromaticus, an Indian traditional plant known for its various
medicinal properties were screened for their phytoconstituents by
many scientists. Literature survey revealed the variations in the
constituents according to geographical locations. No report has been
available on the constituents of the plant from Tiruchirappalli district,
Tamil Nadu, India. Hence, this study was undertaken to study the
constituents and their percentages. The GC-MS result indicates that
1,2-Benzene diol 4-(1,1 dimethyl ethyl) was the major component
about 60%. Literature suggests the role of the compound against
antibacterial activities, which supports our experimental results.
Keywords: Coleus aromaticus; phytoconstituents; GC-MS; antibacterial.
