ABSTRACT
A new class of Diphenylethyne derivatives of Pyrimidines namely butyl 2-(3-(3- substituted) ureido)-6-(4-((4-(morpholino methyl) phenyl) ethynyl) phenyl) pyrimidine-4-carboxylate (8a-8h) and N-hydroxy-2-(3-(substituted)ureido)-6-(4-((4-(morpholino methyl) phenyl) ethynyl) phenyl) pyrimidine-4-carboxamide (9a-h) were synthesized by reaction of butyl 2-amino-6-(4-{[4-(morpholin-4-ylmethyl)phenyl] ethynyl}phenyl) pyrimidine-4-carboxylate (7) with different substituted derivatives of isocyanates and further treatment of the product obtained with hydroxylamine. The structure of each novel compound was elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis, IR 1H NMR and Mass spectral Analysis. All the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. Antimicrobial studies revealed that the pharmacological properties of all the pyrimidine derivatives were enhanced by introducing alkoxy and halogen substituents.
Keywords: Pyrimidines, Antibacterial activity, antifungal activity.
