ABSTRACT
The aim of this investigation was to develop and optimize Metformin
HCl matrix tablets for sustained release application. The sustained
release matrix tablet of Metformin Hcl was prepared by wet
granulation technique using Jackfruit seed polysaccharide. The
prepared tablet was evaluated for different parameter which shows JSP
release retardant material for sustained drug delivery. Present study
shows The polysaccharides obtained after extraction was creamish
white in colour (Jackfruit), The viscosity were found to be, 12.59 cp
for jackfruit polysaccharide. The pH was found to be 6.4 for jackfruit
polysaccharide. The angle of repose for all the formulations blend was
found to be in the range from 20-25 it indicate well to passable flow of
granules. Compressibility index was found between 8.53 % and 21.19 % indicating the
powder blend has the excellent to good flow property for compression. The measured
hardness of tablets of each batch ranged between 4.01 to 5.98 kg/cm2. The % friability was
less than 1% in all the Formulations .The drug content for all the formulated tablets was
found to 98 % to 99.79 % of Metformin HCL. Formulation JF-1 shows up to 92% of drug
release in 720 min. whereas formulation JF-2 shows 89 % of drug release in 720 min. which
shows Formulation JF-1 and JF-2 shows the sustained release of drug up to extended time. In
FTIR identical principle peaks were observed in all the cases, Hence it shall be confirmed
that interactions do not exist between the drug and polymer.
