ABSTRACT
Objective: To monitor and assess adverse drug reactions in the general medicine ward. Method: We prospectively monitored adverse drug reactions in all eligible in-patients admitted in general medicine ward and assessed by using WHO and NARANJO scale. Results: Out of 350 patients monitored, a total number of 18 adverse drug reactions were observed in 18 patients. Males and females were 55.6% and 44.5% respectively. Among 18 ADRs found, 20% patients admitted due to ADRs and 80% patients developed ADRs after admission. Conclusion: Our study concludes that the most common drug class implicated with ADRs was found to be anti-hypertensives and antibiotics. Causality assessment by WHO and NARANJO scales revealed that most of the ADRs were probable and possible respectively.
