ABSTRACT
The present study was aimed at the identification of components from the fixed oil obtained from the seeds of Indigofera cordifolia, family Fabaceae. The seeds of Indigofera cordifolia were powdered and subjected to soxhlet extraction using petroleum ether as a solvent. The extract was then evaporated by using rotary vaccum evaporator and derivatized to prepare Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME). The FAMEs were then analyzed by GC-MS. The physical constants such as Saponification value and Acid value were determined by standard procedure specified in the Indian Pharmacopoeia. The major compounds in the fixed oil obtained from Indigofera cordifolia were found to be Linoleic acid (9, 12 – Octadecadienoic acid), Linoleyl alcohol (9,12 – Octadecadien-1-ol),17- octadecynoic acid, Palmitic acid (Hexadecanoic acid), N-(2-hyrdoxy ethyl) Decanamide,N-(2- hyrdoxy ethyl) Octanamide and aliphatic hydrocarbons such as undecane, hexadecane, tridecane and 2,4,6-trimethyl octane. The physical constants of the fixed oil such as saponification value and acid value were found to be 185.13 and 15.708 respectively.
