A MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS OF PROGNOSTIC FACTORS IN HIV PATIENTS: A CROSS SECTIONAL OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) stands as a major health threat till date in spite of its inception for more than three decades. Since the beginning of this epidemic, HIV/AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) continues to be a dreadful killer worldwide amongst all other infectious diseases as an immunocompromised condition [1]. According to the WHO’S report June 2013 around 34 million people worldwide are living with HIV in 2011 and in 2012 around 9.7 million people living with HIV are receiving Anti retroviral therapy (ART) in middle and low income countries.[2] In India being the third largest country with most number of people (an estimated 23.9 lakhs) are living with HIV/AIDS, of whom 39% are females, 60% are males and 4.4 % are children. In India among all the states, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana (0.90%) stands next to Manipur (1.40%) the highest in prevalence of HIV among the adults.[3]
