PRELIMINARY PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING OF LEAVES EXTRACTS OF TERMINALIA CATAPPA

ABSTRACT
The present study involves extraction and phytochemical investigation
of Terminalia catappa .belonging to the family Combretaceae, for its
medicinal value. A qualitative phytochemical analysis of six solvent
extract methanol, ethanol, petroleum ether chloroform, 1%chloroform
and ethyl acetate was performed for the presence of carbohydrate,
protein, steroid, glycosides, tannins, flavinoids, alkaloids, saponins,
starch and terpinoids. Observation revealed the presence of biological
compounds in leaves extract. Therefore, leaves extract of this plant
serve as a good source of useful drugs.
