Abstract

‘FORMULATION & EVALUATION OF TRAMADOL HYDROCHLORIDE SUSTAINED RELEASE MATRIX TABLETS BY USING NATURAL POLYMERS’

Sujit N. Pawar*, Mr. Jangame C. M., Mr. Suraj S. Mulaje

ABSTRACT

The present investigation deals with formulation of matrix extended release tablets of highly water-soluble Tramadol HCl sustained release matrix tablets. Tramdol is a water soluble drug and is prescribed for three to four times a day. Thus it is necessary for the drug to develop a sustained dosage form with reduced risk of drug administration, side effects and patient compliance. Tramadol is rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral administration, showing good bioavailability. Hence the main intension of the study was to formulate and evaluate Tramadol HCl sustained release matrix tablets of different natural polymers like Acacia, Xanthan gum, Tragacanth in different concentration for different batches. After carrying out physiochemical characteristics of API under investigation, preformulation and post formulation parameters are studied. In–vitro study revealed that Formulations containing the Tragacanth as a polymer showed the drug release up to 12 hrs. and found to be most promising polymer among three polymers used in the research work.

Keywords: Tramadol hydrochloride, Natural polymers, matrix tablet.
