ABSTRACT
A simple, HPLC method was developed and validated for the assay of
Levetiracetam in drug formulations and urine samples. Isocratic
elution at a flow rate of 1.0ml/min was conducted on a Phenomenex
C18 (Luna® 5 μm C18(2) 100 Å, LC Column 250 x 4.6 mm) at room
temperature. The mobile phase consisted of Methanol: Water:TEA
70:25:05 (V/V). The UV detection wavelength was 224 nm and 20μl
sample was injected. The retention time for Levetiracetam was 3.02
min. The percentage RSD for precision and accuracy of the method
was found to be less than 3%. The method was validated as per the
ICH guidelines. The method can be successfully applied for routine
analysis of Levetiracetam in tablet dosage form and bulk drug as well
in the urine samples.
