ABSTRACT
Vata-rakta is the major example of Vata Vyadhi, caused due to
Avarana pathology. The literature enlists a number of Guggulu
Prayogas in the management of Vata-rakta. In Chakradutta,
Vatavyadhi Rogaadhikaar, Chapter 23, two types of Amrita Guggulu,
Pratham and Dwitiya, here named Sample I and Sample II are
described. This is a single-blind comparative clinical study with a pretest
and post-test design, wherein a minimum of 60 patients of both
sex, suffering from Vata-rakta, in an age limit of 20 to 60 years, were
selected and randomly categorized into two groups. The 30 patients of
group A were treated with oral administration of Tab Amrita Guggulu
Sample I 500 mg thrice a day and the group B patients with Tab Amrita
Guggulu Sample II of the same dose pattern with Anupana of
Amritaadi Kashaya 72 ml with each dose. The therapeutic effect of the
treatment was assessed in both the groups based on specific subjective
and objective parameters. The results obtained were analyzed statistically in both the groups.
In both the groups, statistically significant improvement was observed in all the criteria of
assessment. The outcome of the study revealed a better therapeutic efficacy of Amrita
Guggulu Sample II than Amrita Guggulu Sample I in Vata-rakta. The use of Amrita Guggulu
Sample II as Shamana Aushadha was a perfect selection in the management of Vata-rakta. As a preliminary study, it has paved the further scope of study with bigger sample size in
management of Vata-rakta.
