ABSTRACT
A visible spectroscopic method was developed to estimate the amount of atenolol in bulk and its pharmaceutical formulations. Method was based on the formation of colored chromogen (b m reagent). The λ- max of atenolol was found to be 550nm to both crude and marketed sample, beer’s law was obeyed at the concentrations ranging 2- 10μg/ml. The correlation coefficient was found 0.999. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision and ruggedness. The values of LOD and LOQ for atenolol were found to be 0.148 and 0.449 μg/ml respectively. The mean recovery of the substance was found to be 100.23%. The developed method was found to be simple, sensitive, rapid, precise, accurate and reproducible hence the results obtained of this method will be satisfactory for routine analysis of atenolol.
