ABSTRACT
The main objective of the present work was to develop sustained release matrix tablets of lornoxicam using different polymers viz. Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose K4M (HPMC K4M) and Carbopol. The tablets were evaluated for physical characteristic like hardness,
weight variation, friability and drug content. In-vitro release of drug was performed in phosphate buffer (PBS) pH 7.4 for ten hours. All the physical characters of the fabricated tablet were within acceptable limits. The tablet with carbopol exhibited greater swelling index than those with HPMC K4M. A better controlled drug release (98.32%) was obtained with the formulation (F1) made-up of the HPMC K4M than with the Carbopol. It is cleared through the dissolution profile of lornoxicam that matrix tablets prepared using different polymers were retarded approx 10 hrs.
Keywords: Lornoxicam, HPMC K4M, Carbopol, Sustained Release Matrix tablet.
