ABSTRACT
Three simple spetrophotometric methods (A, B and C) have been
described for the assay of Thiocolchicoside in bulk and in
pharmaceutical formulations. In method A Thiocolchicoside is
condensed with P-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (PDAB) to form a
yellow coloured Schiff’s base having an absorption maximum (λmax) of
400nm. Method B is based on the oxidation / reduction reaction
between the Thiocolchicoside and hydrochloride reagent to form a
yellow coloured chromogen with λmax at 400 nm. Method C involves
oxidation of Thiocolchicoside with ferric chloride followed by
coupling with N-methylbenzothiazolone hydrazone (MBTH) to form
yellowish green coloured complex with λmax at 410nm.These methods
have been statistically evaluated and are found to be precise and accurate.
Keywords: Thiocolchicoside, MBTH, Validation, UV-Visible.
